two rock cairns balance side by side, one black and white and on in color on a yellow, white, and blue background of tie-dyed patterns. A yellow circle floats behind them covered by red stitched rings. The shapes are outlined in satin stitch and the foreground is covered by rows of running stitch.

embroidery on appliqued fabrics with shibori, dyenaflow paint, and block printing, about 7 x 10 inches, 2021

This is part of a series of works inspired by hands, senses, and the brain. This particular piece was inspired by nature hikes, a love of rock cairns, and the wonderment of trying to understand how photons bounce in all directions, allowing us to perceive color and objects from every angle. This piece includes a print of a rock cairn created by my daughter, Zillah Elcin.
